Hydraulic engineering
Sustainable use and hazard control as two sides of the same coin
We carry out improvements to hydraulic structures and develop safety concepts for flood control. We renaturalize watercourses and restore covered streams to their original state, always giving due consideration to the wider environmental context. This is because water, as a natural resource, can be both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it is needed for drinking and a variety of other purposes, and also provides a sustainable means of clean energy production. On the other hand, we need to control the risks posed by water while at the same time preserving the ecological equilibrium.
