Scan2BIM mission of an existing hydropower scheme

Implementation of ultra detailed drone photogrammetry & BIM modelling

In the last century, two-dimensional drawings were the standard for project plans in the construction industry. This type of representation offered a certain degree of accuracy, but was often limited when it came to accurately depicting complex construction projects. Nowadays, such two-dimensional plans are no longer sufficient, as the demands for precision and efficiency in construction projects have increased significantly. This has led to the development of new and more advanced methods, such as Scan to BIM (Building Information Modelling).

Scan to BIM can be used to reliably create digital 3D models that not only accurately depict the architecture, but also the built environment. These models are invaluable to the project team as they provide a precise and comprehensive basis for planning and realisation. A reliable model is crucial to optimise planning and minimise uncertainties. It is precisely these uncertainties, which can occur with conventional methods, that the use of Scan to BIM aims to avoid.

In this specific case, an infrastructure BIM project relied solely on 2D analogue plans drawn to scale. However, these plans did not fulfil the requirements of modern BIM planning. For this reason, the decision was made to use Scan to BIM. Both the existing structures and the surrounding area were recorded and modelled in accordance with the BIM execution plan (BEP).

One of the biggest advantages of Scan to BIM is its time efficiency. Thanks to this method, the BIM model was created within a few weeks and made available to the project team as a precise planning basis. This enabled seamless integration into the further planning and construction process, which significantly accelerated the project.
