BLT Baselland Transport AG commissioned Gruner AG, Infrastruktur Oberwil with the development of the SIA phases 21 "Variant study" to SIA phase 53 "Commissioning" for the handicapped accessible extension as well as the redesign of the terminal station (turning loop) Rodersdorf. The great challenge was to reconcile all the needs of BLT, the municipality, Postauto Ltd and the Durftgarten Association. Furthermore, the local conditions with the two adjacent municipal roads Dammstrasse and Stockackerstrasse posed a challenge regarding the track geometry. In 2018, the project planning started with the study of the track geometry variants for the implementation of the BehiG (Swiss Disability Equality Act) requirements. After the decision on the variants, the planning approval dossier was prepared for the FOT (Federal Office of Transport) and submitted for approval in 2020. Upon receipt of the planning approval from the FOT in the spring of 2022, construction work could begin in the summer of 2023. The main work for the track construction took place during a 9-week track closure with replacement operation with buses. In the preliminary stages, the following elements such as the technical cabin, the bicycle shelters, catenary mast foundations and work lines were carried out under rail operation. During the main works (9-week track closure), the complete works for the track construction, the safety system, the overhead line, and the remaining works lines followed. The new track system was constructed as a fixed track system (Rheda City sleepers) over a length of around 200 m. The existing entry switch was integrated into the fixed track system. Rail operations were resumed on schedule on December 5, 2022, and the construction work excluding the permanent way was completed at the end of April 2023.
