Glattal and Weissenbach viaducts

Repair of the SOB viaducts

The Glattal Viaduct and the Weissenbach Viaduct, which both date back to 1910 and are each around 300 metres long, need to be repaired. The work on the two natural stone viaducts of the Schweizerische Südostbahn (SOB) was carried out simultaneously.

In a first, early phase, the covering stones of the viaducts were realigned in accordance with the specifications of the heritage authorities. The railway line had to be closed for five weeks for the actual main work on the ballast trough. The existing trough was demolished, preserving the original console and cover stones, and rebuilt together with a new seal. The drainage system was also completely renewed. The joints in the natural stone masonry were extensively repaired and pillar IV of the Weissenbach viaduct was cross-pinned for stabilisation.

In this project, Gruner was responsible for the preliminary, construction, support and execution project. We were additionally involved in the tendering process and took over the construction management, which also included the track construction.
