The bridge over the Wyna in Beromünster was the winning project in the single-stage competition organised for the region's bypass road in the canton of Lucerne. The bridge is to be optimally connected to the current cantonal roads in order to maintain the capacity of the traffic junction. In addition, the road, cycle and pedestrian bridge provides a bypass around the town centre to relieve its traffic congestion.
Gruner was called in as architect and civil engineer for this project. We were entrusted with the overall project management as well as the project planning and technical construction management.
The bridge was made of Corten steel, which gives it a sleek look. In addition, the concrete foundations were covered with vegetation, allowing the structure to blend in better with the surrounding landscape. Furthermore, the weathered look of the steel bridge fits in perfectly with its historic surroundings, emphasising the historic character of Beromünster.
The bridge's load-bearing system consists of a composite structure and a three-span beam. The main beam consists of two box beams made of Corten steel, which have a constant height. The choice of steel box beams enables the design of a slender and delicate bridge structure without reducing its stability. The carriageway slab and the bridge piers are made of concrete. The bridge superstructure is supported on the intermediate piers and by the two bearings. The maximum span of the bridge is 38 metres.
