Gland Transshipment Platform: Civil and Railway Works

Specialized engineering for SBB's FbE23 Gland Module 2 project, combining civil and railway expertise with environmental measures.

Since 2023, Gruner has been acting as specialist contractor for the civil engineering and track works for the FbE23 Gland Module 2: Gland, La Ballastière transhipment platform project. As part of this mandate, we drew up the call for tenders (phase 41) and we are currently managing the supervision of the works (phases 51-53).

The project is located in Gland on line 149, which links Gland-Ouest station to Gland-Ballastière. The aim of the works is to create a new ACTS wagon loading and unloading platform with a surface area of around 2,100 m2, to create a road access from the rue de l'Étraz to the platform and to renew the infrastructure and superstructure of track 70.

The uniqueness of this project lies in its ‘environmental’ dimension, in particular through the construction on the site of a former landfill, as well as the measures put in place to protect the site and preserve the amphibians (IBat) located in the immediate vicinity. The year 2024 was marked by the following major achievements:

  • Removal and disposal of track 70 and the knocker;
  • Excavation of the body of the landfill to a depth of around 5 m and removal of the materials. In all, more than 13,000m3 of excavated material was disposed of in various ways (type B, E and S) and around 1,600m3 of excavated material, mainly topsoil, was reused on site;
  • Construction of a run-off water collection system and installation of a 120 m GRP retention tube and two GRP chambers at the ends of the retention tube;
  • Construction of a gabion weight wall along the embankments of track 70 and at the north-western end of the platform;
  • Construction of the box for the wagon loading/unloading platform using 90 cm thick GNT gravel;
  • Construction of a gully with a surface area of around 100m2;
  • Construction of foundations and installation of 5 lighting columns;
  • Construction of a 120 m access road and connection to the cantonal road;
  • Installation of the new superstructure for track 70 (145 m) and the new RAWIE knocker.
  • Finally, we closed out 2024 with the laying of various layers of asphalt on the platform and access road: 15 cm of ACF 22S and 12 cm of AC EME 22 C2.

The year 2025 promises to be just as ambitious, with forest management work to be carried out in the spring and autumn and the Percolé 0/14 asphalt wearing course to be laid this summer.
