WAPO Water Police Zurich

Replacing reconstruction

A modern new building for the water police was erected at the previous location on Mythenquai, which fulfils today's requirements and tasks. The new replacement building consists of a monolithic concrete structure with three storeys, which is flanked by two concreted footbridges.

On the rear land side, there is a spacious garage or boat hall on the ground floor, which extends over all three storeys. The boat moorings are located on the lake side and extend over two storeys.

Various functional rooms are located between the boat moorings and the boat hall. These include cloakrooms, a diving room, sanitary facilities and other rooms required for day-to-day operations. The entresol accommodates the workshop, caretaker's rooms, technical and storage rooms as well as additional sanitary facilities and recreation rooms for the staff.

The top floor of the building, which towers high above the boat moorings, is reserved for the command centre of the water police. From there, the officers have an impressive panoramic view of the lake with over 180 degree visibility.

It is particularly noteworthy that the part of the building used is above the lake level and can be completely swam under on the lake side. There is also a helicopter landing pad on the roof of the building.
