SRES Partial deconstruction WRO

The Rosental site is to be redesigned as part of the SRES project in Basel. This will require the demolition of buildings 1018 and 1020 as well as the partial demolition of buildings 1002 and 1013. Gruner was contracted to carry out the entire demolition project. As building pollutants were used in the buildings, these also had to be carefully restored. The pollutants included asbestos, PCBs and CP, PAHs and various heavy metals.

We encountered a number of obstacles during the project. One of the biggest problems was the large amount of pollutants, around 1,800 m2 of sprayed asbestos and around 3,700 m2 of PCB-containing floor and wall coatings. We were also working under time pressure, which meant that several jobs had to be carried out at the same time. This also required the presence of several construction crews at the same time. In addition, small equipment had to be used for the demolition, as it had to be carried out inside the protective shield.

At the beginning of the project, we carried out a building check including sampling and its evaluation. During the actual work, we took over the project planning and realisation of the building pollutant remediation, the orderly dismantling activities, the upgrading measures and the filling of the excavation pit. We were also responsible for coordinating the removal of media and energy.
