Rehabilitation clinic in Affoltern a. A.

Extension and new build Mäxi Kubus

The rehabilitation clinic at the children's hospital in Affoltern am Albis is to be extended in two stages i.e. added to the existing building. The first stage was realised between 2010 and 2012, with the second stage taking place between 2016 and 2018.

The first stage involved adding storeys to the north wing. Two storeys were added above the main entrance in solid construction, all of this during ongoing operations. In addition, the existing building was upgraded to meet the latest earthquake safety standards.

The second stage involved the construction of the new extension, which was named "Mäxi Kubus Süd". The aim of the project was to expand the capacity of both the inpatient and outpatient operations. The extension consists of the ground floor, floor B, the two upper floors C and D and a mezzanine floor A. The mezzanine floor houses a small technical centre. Floor B mainly houses offices, but there is also a corridor laboratory and a gymnastics and multi-purpose hall on the ground floor. The two upper floors mainly house therapy rooms, but also a multi-purpose room and a two-storey climbing hall. This building is also a solid construction.

Gruner's services relate to SIA phases 31-53, with project planning and execution taking place during ongoing operations.
