The baggage sorting system at Zurich Airport is showing signs of age and needs to be modernised in order to guarantee the smooth operation of baggage handling. In addition, the system must fulfil the new legal requirements and be equipped for the future increase in flight demand. A new system is therefore being built to gradually replace the old one.
Our services within the scope of this project include fire protection support, the development of a smoke extraction concept and the verification of its effectiveness using fire simulations (CFD). Thanks to the simulations, it was possible to design the smoke extraction system in such a way that the passage of smoke into the adjacent smoke extraction sections is minimised. This is achieved despite numerous horizontal and vertical openings.
