Theater- and Playhouse, Basel

The Theater Basel is the largest tripartite theatre in Switzerland (opera, drama and ballet) and is essentially divided between the two buildings Theatergebäude and Schauspielhaus and three stages. The theater building was getting on in years and showed a greater need for renovation in the building and stage area. The need for renovation of the Schauspielhaus was marginal. A first rough analysis of the condition of the building was carried out with regard to structural condition and remaining service life. This was prepared by the planning team ARGE GP Gruner/Hartmann Architekten. The upcoming renovation measures and any extraordinary projects were bundled into efficient packages of measures and summarized. In the course of the analysis phase, a comprehensive renovation concept was developed from the planned catalog of measures, which also coordinated and took into account the measures for stage technology, building technology, fire protection and general maintenance. From the current inventory, individual measures have been formulated across all departments. For each of these measures, a prioritization, the costs and a deadline were assigned.
