New use of the "Zentrale Pratteln"

GEWONA Nord-West is converting an existing logistics and warehouse building (Building 12) at Pratteln railroad station into residential and commercial premises. The subject of Gruner AG's contract is the assessment of the load-bearing structure in Building 12 with regard to fire resistance. In accordance with the use, a fire resistance of R60 is required for the supporting structure.

Representative cross-sections of the relevant components were provided by the architects and structural engineers to assess the structure. The cross-sections show great heterogeneity in structure and materiality and do not correspond to any current standard design in terms of fire protection. Some cross-sections, for example, have cork insulation - the fire protection assessment of which is one of the specialties of this assignment. In order to assess the behavior of the cork insulation under high-temperature stress in the event of fire, special temperature-dependent material laws were developed for the event of fire. Among other things, material laws of wood-based materials under fire exposure were used for this purpose. The material laws developed and the numerical thermal analyses of the various cross-sections demonstrated that the component cross-sections investigated have sufficient fire resistance without the need for additional fire protection measures.
