The Novartis Pavilion at the southern end of the Novartis Campus in Basel was opened at the end of April 2022. Designed by AMDL CIRCLE Michele De Lucchi, the pavilion will serve as an exhibition, meeting and event centre and is the first publicly accessible building on the site. The aim of the pavilion is to promote discourse on life sciences and to represent a place for the past, present and future of healthcare. The pavilion houses the ‘Wonders of Medicine’, a multimedia exhibition designed by ATELIER BRÜCKNER. The content of the exhibition was developed in close collaboration with Novartis scientists.
The circular floor plan of the pavilion is divided into two levels, each of which can be used for different purposes. The open space on the ground floor is designed to welcome visitors and offer flexible spaces for learning, meetings and events. On the mezzanine floor there is a multimedia theatre with staircase seating, which connects the ground floor with the upper floor and guides visitors to the themes of the ‘Wonders of Medicine’ exhibition. The exhibition space was designed as a flowing gallery that allows visitors to experience the exhibition as a round trip.
Gruner's services for the project include fire protection, quality assurance and project support. We created a fire protection concept for the pavilion, including the fire protection plans, and also designed a fire control matrix. We carried out integral tests and undertook quality assurance. We also accompanied the project through SIA phases 31-53.
