The Children's Hospital Zurich has commissioned ARGE KISPI (Herzog & de Meuron, Gruner) to plan and realize the acute hospital designed by Herzog & de Meuron. It is the largest hospital in Switzerland for the care of children and adolescents. The children's hospital offers the full range of pediatric and adolescent medical and surgical specialties. This provides an unusual counterpart to the striking urban design of the neighboring Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich (PUK), the first medical institution to be located in Lengg.
A counterpoint to the hospital building is provided by the building for teaching and research on the north site, which stands out in a self-confident and emblematic way. The view of the PUK from Lenggstrasse remains, and the north area can still be experienced as a coherent green space. The new building is arranged around a central and glazed inner courtyard, which allows direct visual contact between researchers, students, assistants and professors. The auditorium area is also connected to this hall via a large skylight. The exchange of knowledge and ideas between employees to promote innovation is of central importance here.
