Modern computer-assisted methods cannot replace the experience of an acoustic engineer in a successful design process. His or her understanding of materials and the best way to position them lays a solid foundation for the subsequent fine-tuning process. Computer simulations facilitate systematic optimization based on objective criteria. For testing purposes, the design results can be made audible by means of “auralization”. This helps nonspecialists to evaluate the quality of the scheme. Measurements can also be performed on completed projects to verify the effectiveness of the measures.
