SALANFE dam
Rehabilitation of the Alkali Aggregate Reaction (AAR) affected SALANFE dam
Salanfe gravity dam (height 52 m, length 600 m) is located in the Swiss Alps at 1,900 m. The dam is affected by an Alkali Aggregate Reaction of the concrete. The rehabilitation of the dam was necessary to release the stresses that developed within the concrete. Vertical saw cuts were performed, reaching one half of the height of the dam. Extensive monitoring helped to follow up the behavior of the dam during the saw cutting operation.
