Stadelhofen underground Railway Station emergency ventilation system design
Designing the emergency ventilation of the underground station in case of fire and the ventilation of emergency exits
Stadelhofen railway station, located in the heart of Zurich, is one of the biggest bottlenecks in the Zurich suburban railway system. A comprehensive expansion of the station was therefore planned as part of the STEP AS 2035 program. This includes the construction of a fourth underground track and a second Riesbach tunnel towards Zurich Tiefenbrunnen. This increases the capacity of Zurich Stadelhofen station by 50%.

Gruner designed the emergency ventilation of the Stadelhofen underground train station in the event of a fire and the ventilation of the emergency exits
Under this contract Gruner developed the ventilation concept for the emergency ventilation of the underground station and of the emergency exits including the realisation of 1D flow simulations as part of the preliminary project. A 3D-CFD fire simulation (using StarCCM+) of the planned ventilation system was developed for ensuring exit in case of emergency.
